APR 2012: Things appear to be going slow around here this semester, but I assure you I have done a few things for my art career and self. Here's what I have finished this semester:
THE ATTIC art & performance exhibition. Refined artist statement. Designed and printed business cards. Published working artist website w/ custom domain. Designed forthcoming website (I will need Dreamweaver to put it on the web). Created personal watermark and personalised document template. Refined my unimpressive resume... Mopped studio/room floor with baby wipes and bottle of hydrogen peroxide.
29 FEB 2012: "Boisterous little ladies keep coming into the gallery just to ask "what does it all mean?"
Tempted to say, 'The whole thing is about Asperges syndrome' or some crap just because I know they'd believe it and take a closer look at the work itself."
26 FEB 2012: "Sometimes I get my ideas for art by looking at a surface and thinking, 'what does this surface need?' Today I looked at the now-barren wall over my bed and thought 'what does that surface really NOT need?' So, I quickly made [a realistic cockroach] out of sharpie and nail varnish, simply to freak myself out on an hourly basis. Came out upsettingly well, considering how masochistic of an idea this was."
17 FEB 2012: "Now to the right, an overgrown cliff of chalk. Now in the sky, a violent murmuration. Can't wait to go in there with a tiny dip of white on a tiny brush made from the nose hairs of a dwarf shrew."
16 FEB 2012: "sketcha sketcha sketch rub rub ruuuuub rub rub sketcha sketch rubba rubba rub rub rub rub sketcha sketcha. Pause. Breath. Dippy dip sritcha scritcha scritch scritch dip dip dap scritch scritch pause. internet. contemplate moving desk to gallery. internet.
ehh."15 FEB 2012: "The intention was a powerful portrait. The result was a hotel painting."
14 FEB 2012: "Using a knife blade with no handle to carve up the back of a frame with no leeway to accommodate a canvas board that was manufactured a half centimetre too large. Cheap supplies, rough hands. And wood chips all over the bedroom floor.
Ben got me a bucket of wood stain for Valentines Day. He's doing it right, guys."
13 FEB 2012: "Today I doodled a smiling trio of vultures sitting on the head of a large happy fish riding on an even larger happy seahorse, with the caption 'SEA TAXI TAKES FRIENDS TO WHALE CARCASS'. I feel good about myself."
12 FEB 2012: "I was not planning on a giant onion in this piece. In fact, I was decisively planning to have no onions whatsoever. But alas, a giant onion happened, right in the middle of everything. Subtle, maybe. And now I could not be more glad. This drawing is nothing without that onion."
11 FEB 2012: "I have so much art stuff left to do before the show. An expanse of blank space on this ink drawing is staring at me from across the room, and an unfinished oil painting just around the corner. One week left to get it all done!"
10 FEB 2012: "Angry stylised white swans and crooked naturalistic blackthorn trees. I am liking this combination."
